Who's Leading?

Encounter
"With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. Always let Him lead you, and He will clear the road for you to follow." Proverbs 3:5-6 (CEV)

Experience
I love to dance! It's where I met my husband, of almost 20 years. We had only one problem when we first started dancing together...you guessed it, we both wanted to lead. Now, if you've ever danced with a partner you know that both of you can not lead. If both of you try to lead, it just looks like two cats going at in a sack! Trust me, it's not pretty. In order to make for a great dance team, one must lead and the other must follow.

The same is true in our relationship with our Heavenly Father. We must learn to follow Him. This is easy to say and much harder to do. Most of the time we think we have a clear understanding of God's will and we busy ourselves with putting together plans and goals for seeing it come into reality. And before we know it, we are leading and God is standing on the side of the dance floor, just like the gentleman that He is, waiting for us to come rejoin Him.
Who's leading the dance today in your life?

Engage
Father, thank you for the incredible opportunity to go through this life as Your dance partner. I ask that You would reveal to me how to love You with all my heart and trust You and Your leadership in my life. Show me how to always let You lead me, so that You will clear the road for me to follow!

Express

Today, when you sense you are about to act out of your feelings or abilities, stop, drop and pray.

  • Stop-make the choice not to react out of your own flesh and desires.
  • Drop-take the position of a servant and mentally and physically go to your knees.
  • Pray-seek God's perspective and counsel
You'll never find a more perfect dance partner than Him!

  1. I received this devotional not long ago and was holding on to it because I, too, love to dance. It goes along beautifully with this devotional. Take a read: Guidance - Dancing With God

"When I meditated on the word Guidance, I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word. I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing. When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky. When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction or another. It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully. The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word Guidance. When I saw "G," I thought of God, followed by "u" and "I." "God," "u," "I," and dance. God, you, and I dance. As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life. Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God's blessings and mercies are upon you on this day and everyday. May you abide in God, as God abides in you. Dance together with God, trusting God to lead and to guide you through each season of your life."
